Although batch files (BAT) are part of an outdated technology, they are still widely used, due to their simple scripting language. You can execute numerous tasks in a single run, just by launching one BAT file. Dr. Batcher gives you the possibility of creating your own BAT files. It can be used by experts, to create long strings of commands, but it can be used by beginners as well, even if they don't know anything about editing a script.

Dr. Batcher provides support for Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7. It takes about a minute to download the setup package and to install the software's components. The system requirements are modest and you don't have to install any prerequisite tools or services.

When you start a new project, the program will place various templates at your disposal, an ActiveX or COM library installation, removing temporary files, running multiple programs and others. You can choose between two methods of creating a BAT file, depending on your experience. By default, Dr. Batcher allows you to edit your file in a professional mode, typing various commands.

Instead of typing a command, you can select one, on the left side of the interface, and insert it with a single click. While editing in professional mode, the software will help you with various features, like syntax highlighting, bookmarks, code tooltips and more. When you are done, you may click various options, located on a toolbar, to execute your script, save it as a BAT file or as an EXE file.

If you don't know how to use the available commands, to execute one or more actions, you can switch to simple mode, by selecting an option in the View menu. If you go to simple mode, the text based script editor will be replaced with a list of commands, which you can select, edit, move or erase. If you want to add a new command, you can select one from a long list, on a separate window. Once selected, you will have to set up a few parameters. For example, if you add a command for running a program, you will have to specify the path to its executable, add a label and a command line argument.

Regardless of which editing mode you select, the software will help you with clear instructions. If you insert a command in professional mode, Dr. Batcher will also insert a description, regarding how and where to use the command. Additionally, you can load an example BAT file and experiment. The software comes with numerous example files, which are organized in different folders, according to their complexity.

Pros

Dr. Batcher provides various tools for experts and beginners as well. It allows you to choose between two editing modes, depending on your experience. The software includes many useful features, like syntax highlighting or code tooltips and detailed instructions for individual commands.

Cons

Beginners may be intimidated by the program, before they find the simple editing mode. If you want to run multiple programs at once, clean up your hard drive or perform any other action instantly, Dr. Batcher will help you with its powerful and flexible features.
